Analysis Performance of Modified Tamanu Oil Enhanced with Additives as Potential Green Alternative in Metalworking Fluids

Mineraloils have long been utilizedin industriesas machining lubricants, which contributed to theirdepletion and hick in priceandbeing non-biodegradable, harmful the environment,and risk health.Plant-basedoil is more biodegradable, renewable, environmentally friendlyas a green alternative.However, their crudestate, plant-based oilsare not up par with standard mineral oil used lubricationin terms of high acidity, low-temperatureperformance,and oxidative instability.Further chemical modification adding additives had be made improve propertiesfor industrial applications.This study focused on performance transesterification Tamanu Trimethylolpropane (MTO) Pentaerythritol (MTOP), mixedwith 1% Phosphonium Ionic Liquid (PIL) 10% Ammonium (AIL), producing series specimens; MTO, MTO+PIL1%, MTO+AIL%, MTOP, MTOP+PIL1%, MTOP+AIL%.Thesesamplesare then subjected physicalanalysis determine improvement theirproperties intermsof kinematic viscosityand viscosityindexaswell as undergo four-ball wear test tribology aspects lubrication coefficient frictions scar diameter, accordance withASTM method.All results were compared commercial MWF synthetic ester (SE)as reference oil. The result viscosity index revealsthat MTOP+PIL1% highest value 178.76. MTO+AIL10% exhibits lowest average COF(0.061) other MTOs lubricants. Among MTOP+PIL1%also COF 0.082. addition PIL1% MTO MTOP lowered 730.77μm 674.93μmrespectively. With enhanced properties from additives, can proposed alternative fordevelopingthe metalworking fluid industries future.
